AL East Bias: Can Jacoby Ellsbury Resurrect the Red Sox?
It’s time once again for our bi-weekly jaunt around the American League East.
New York Yankees
The Yankees have opened up a healthy seven game lead in the American League East. The loss of lefty Andy Pettitte to a fractured leg could lead New York onto the trade market for a veteran starter. They’ll likely bump into the Orioles and Red Sox at said market.
While the Yankees have experience an on field surge most of the recent news surrounding the club has involved off field issues. Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson drew the ire of club officials and some fellow HOFers when he stated in a recent interview that there was a “cloud” over Alex Rodriguez’s accomplishment due to his PED admissions and that some current Hall of Famers are undeserving of the honor. I’ve never been a big fan of Mr. October but the fact that he’s getting flack for stating an obvious fact about A-Rod and questioning the HOF worthiness of Bert Blyleven, who was on the ballot for 14 years before being elected, is laughable. Don’t back down Reggie. There’s no need to apologize.
